Reading the poems and the interview that were part of our readings this week reminded me of things that I’ve heard from someone extremely close to myself that have resonated with me. My little sister, Laiba, has a hearing problem that she got when she was 4 years old from a fever that was so strong it affected her ears. Since then she has been required to complete special programs in school in order to “help” her do better despite her “disability”, even though she is one of the smartest people I know. For my post this week, I decided to interview her and ask her what she it is like to live with something classified as a “disability”. Included in the picture attached are some of the highlights of this conversation I had with her.
